Prince Akishino and his wife Princess Kiko Kawashima visited Indonesia from Jan. 18 to 24, 2008 to mark the 50th anniversary of Japan-Indonesia diplomatic relations. During their one- week visit, the Japanese royal couple met with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Indonesian royalty--Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and many other dignitaries as well as visited Bogor and Yogyakarta. For Princess Kiko, this visit to Indonesia was not her first. In 1987, Princess Kiko, who was then still a young university student, participated in the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth program (SSEAYP). Her visit to Indonesia was the perfect moment for SSEAYP International Indonesia (SII) to get in touch with a remarkable woman who not only was a former PY but also part of Japan’s royal family. Princess Kiko is the wife of Prince Akishino, the second son of Japan’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. |

In preparation for SIGA 2009 to be held in Yogyakarta, Central Java, SII President Rino Wicaksono signed a Memo of Understanding (MOU) with Himawan Brahmantyo, the Director of Trisakti Tourism Academy. The signing was held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Trisakti Tourism Academy campus in Bintaro, South Jakarta and was witnessed by Santi Palupi, the Head of Tours and Travel Department of Trisakti Tourism Academy and Budi Setiawan, Deputy Chief of the Youth Leadership Affairs of the Ministry of Education. Many hope this joint cooperation will strengthen future plans to attract SSEAYP alumni and their families to visit Indonesia for SIGA as well as to help develop a new SII program called the Travel Network, which aims to encourage SII alumni to travel within the country through pre-arranged tours organized by the Trisakti Tourism Academy. |
